Attention, Please! Koi show vats are SOLD OUT as of 7-3-2012.
We are proud to announce our 20th Annual show to be held over the weekend of July 13 - 15, 2011. This is a major milestone for our club, and we should all be very proud to be among only a handful of clubs in the country to reach this milestone 20th consecutive year. We will once again be holding our show at the Darien Sportsplex in Darien, Il.
It is an air-conditioned facility with plenty of room for show vats and vendor booths. If you have never shown before, or are a veteran koi show participant, we hope you will consider showing your koi this year. We have a highly qualified and experienced water quality expert, Dr. Robert Passovoy, who has done water quality at our show for many years. Dr. Passovoy is also an AKCA certified Koi Health Advisor, so you can rest assured that your koi will be in good hands!
We will, of course, need lots of volunteers to help with the show this year! We’ll be hiring part-time help to set up and break down vats – always a most difficult job – but will need lots of help with the goldfish tanks, vendor booth set up, etc. We are also asking for a few night-owls who would be willing to baby-sit the koi after the show closes until the facility locks up at about 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. Another great volunteer opportunity is “assistant water mope” – you can learn the secrets of water quality management from our guru Dr. Passovoy.
If you can help this year, please email to Bryzkoi@aol.com what days you might be available to help.
We hope to see you at the show!

ENGLISH STYLE SHOW
This show will be an English style show for all varieties of koi. This means that each exhibitors’ koi will be assigned a vat(s) at registration time, and his/her fish shall remain in that vat for the entire show. The purpose of this type of show is to minimize the risk of spreading communicable disease from one owners’ fish to another. We are also spacing vats approx. 24” apart to avoid cross-contamination from splashing.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

MANDATORY SHOW VAT RESERVATIONS
- SOLD OUT AS OF 7-3-2012
POINT SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING VAT REQUIREMENTS
Please use the following system as a guide to determine how many fish can be placed in each vat:
1. Determine the total points by using the table below, which shows points based on the sizes of your koi.
Size 1 up to 8 inches .3 points
Size 2 8 to 12 inches 1.0 points
Size 3 12 to 16 inches 2 points
Size 4 16 to 20 inches 5 points
Size 5 20 to 23 inches 8 points
Size 6 23 to 26 inches 12 points
Size 7 over 26 inches 18 inches
2. As an example, you plan to bring four size 2 koi at 1 point each, three size 3 koi at 2 points each, and two size 4 koi at 5 points each. Your total would be 20 points.
3. Recommended point totals are as follows: For a six foot vat, optimum total is 20 points; maximum total is 25 points. For an eight foot vat, 35 points is optimuim and 45 points is the maximum. So for the above example, you would want to reserve one six foot vat.
KOI REGISTRATION AND IDENTIFICATION
The entry fee may be paid with the reservation or may be paid when the fish are brought to registration. We will be taking digital photos of your fish, so there is no need to bring photographs with you. Your fish will be carefully measured and classified by our benching team. The final determination of the placement of koi into the various judging classes is made by the benching team.
CONDITION OF FISH DURING TRANSPORT AND EXHIBIT
For the safety and health of your fish, DO NOT FEED THEM FOR 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE SHOW. Fish with undigested food require more oxygen, excrete contaminants into the water, and are more easily stressed. Only members of the fish handling committee will handle fish during the show. Anyone wishing to inspect their fish must receive permission from the show Chairperson. All exhibitors are expected to provide one bowl and one net for each vat reserved. A limited number of bowls and nets are available free of charge on a first-come basis.
