This year, once again, we are combining our Trade Show with the Koi & Goldfish Show. We are also hosting the American Breeders’ Show, so we have a full weekend scheduled for July 9-11.
The American Breeders Show is a creation of the AKBA, or American Koi Breeders Association. This is a professional organization composed of, you guessed it - folks who breed koi in the US. There are probably close to 20 active facilities in the country devoted to breeding Nishikigoi. They decided to have an annual show, to be held in conjunction with another existing AKCA show, and on a traveling basis, so that folks could become aware of the excellent koi that are being bred right here in the good old USA. This will be their 4th annual show. Entries are limited to koi born and bred in the USA, and entered by members of AKBA. We are proud and honored to have them a part of our show this year.
The beginning of July is a good time to be fixing up, adding to or enhancing our ponds. Whether it be adding new fish, aquatic plants, pond and landscape lighting and decorations, pond and fish supplies of all sorts or related arts and crafts, you will find them all at the 2010 Trade Show. We will also have pond planners, installers and maintainers for the entire new pond project.
We are working diligently on promoting and advertising our show and believe these efforts will result in more attendees and a more successful show for all. We can all help in this process by calling your local newspaper and letting them know about our event. Find out if you can send them one of our press releases. Ask your favorite local vendor if they will display one of the signs for our show. If you have any ideas about advertising or promoting our show, e-mail Ellen at ellen@mpks.org.
Once again as always, we will be looking for volunteers to help with setup, showtime duties and tear-down. There will be volunteer sign-up sheets at the June dinner meeting. In the near future there will also be a volunteer sign-up sheet on our website at www.mpks.org. There will also be advertising signs and cards to hand out at our June dinner meeting.
In addition to the Koi and Goldfish shows and Trade Show, there will be several presentations and active participation activities throughout the weekend.
If you have never shown before, or are a veteran koi show participant, we hope you will considershowing your koi this year. We have a highly qualified and experienced water quality expert, Dr. Robert Passovoy, who has done water quality at our show for many years, and recently did water quality for the MAKC Koi America show. Dr. Passovoy is also an AKCA certified Koi Health Advisor, so you can rest assured that your koi will be in good hands!

ENGLISH STYLE SHOW
This show will be an English style show for all varieties of koi. This means that each exhibitors' koi will be assigned a vat(s) at registration time, and his/her fish shall remain in that vat for the entire show. The purpose of this type of show is to minimize the risk of spreading communicable disease from one owners' fish to another. We are also spacing vats approx. 24" apart to avoid cross-contamination from splashing.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS
We have reserved 15 rooms at a special show rate of $69.00 per night at The Clubhouse Inn of Westmont, 630 Pasquinelli Drive, Westmont, Il 60559. Telephone 630-920-2200 for reservations by June 15. After this date, rooms will still be discounted, but available only on a first come basis. Mention MPKS Koi Show. The hotel is located approximately three miles from the show site.
