Dr. Myron Kebus Presents: Pond Design and Filtration
Debra's Ratings:
One Fish - Watch Reality TV instead
Two Fish - This book is better than a water change
Three Fish - A book even your fish should
read
Four Fish - Best In Show!
By way of the calendar, Spring is finally
here! Daffy and Donald have also returned to our habitat. The
wonderful mallard pair who are as high ranking as the robin on
the list of "signs of spring." With springs arrival
comes the grand ideas of change and starting new. Before you break
out the PVC, air tubes, filter boxes, brushes and shovels, "Pond
Design and Filtration" should be popped into your VCR!
I was rather impressed with this video
and all its offerings. Throughout the video instructions and explanations
are given in layman's terms. Half the battle in most changes and
improvement projects is the clear understanding of the adventure
you are about to embark upon. The video touches on many subjects
and in great detail. I especially found the lessons on filtration
and pond maintenance very beneficial.
This video also focuses on the harmony
of the water feature you create. The harmony of pond location,
water quality, fish and filtration. Each has it's role. Each pond,
in its own right, has its own needs and considerations. If you
wanted to build a small water garden, you would prepare the feature
with plants in mind. If you wanted to build a garden with the
intention of introducing koi or goldfish, then certainly you would
approach your project in a different manner.
This video will help you.
Beginning any new construction, or improving
on what is already installed, should always begin with a plan.
This video certainly helps with the planning. You will be more
prepared for the project and the experiences you are about to
have. This video also has a Pond Planner located under it's cover.
This planner offers design ideas, a variety of pond choices and
even a checklist before you begin the project. I would highly
suggest, if you check the video out from our library, that you
copy this planner because the original checklist must stay with
the tape.
Another reason this video is a must see
is the fact that MPKS had participated in the content of the film.
There was also an appearance by our very own Mike White examining
the brushes of a fairly large filter. I have to say that I was
quite proud when I saw the "credits" at the end of the
film showing that our club was involved.
This video runs 55 minutes and is worth
each moment you are transfixed on the screen. I do recommend that
you have a pad of paper and pen in hand though, you will be wanting
to write down some of the more interesting pieces of advice and
recommendations given.
I enjoyed this video and all the lessons
learned. While learning I also found myself admiring the beautiful
koi and gardens featured throughout. It made me think of days
to come, the warmth, the smell of spring showers, first blooms
and getting acquainted with my oasis again. Daffy and Donald are
not the only ones who are happy with Spring's arrival!!
I give this video 3.5 fish!!!
