Help, I have a 1300 filtered Koi pond. This is the first year that I've had so much algae during the winter. We keep the pond running for the waterfall and another water feature. I have 5 small fish and a big one, hopefully 4 little frogs and plants wintering over.

Help and Thanks, Vee

Hair algae or floating (peasoup) algae? If it is hair algae, it is a function of water circulation and slow fish metabolism. It is presently acting as a low-grade filter and food source. Leave it be. When the water warms up, you can snag it out with a brush.

If your water is peasoup green, it is floating algae, and has the potential to soak up enough oxygen from your water at night to harm your fish. Since you have kept your pumps running, the best bet is to get a UV unit into the line between your final filter array and the pond. Your floating algae will go away.
